 Message from Dr. Dennis Lam, Editor-in-Chief

Dear Colleagues,

I wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a fruitful new year ahead!

This year, the Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology (APJO) has become a free access journal since January. All APJO articles can be viewed and downloaded completely free of charge, and no article processing fee is charged to authors for article publications.

The publication of special issues on hot and broad topics continues to be one of the highlights of the year. Three well-received special issues have been published in 2017 with the enthusiastic support of world leading experts whom I am most grateful for:

  1. Ophthalmic Oncology (Mar/Apr) led by Guest Editors-in-Chief Jerry Shields and Carol Shields, and Guest Editors Sarah Coupland, Santosh Honavar, Martine Jager and Timothy Sullivan;
  2. Cataract & IOLs (Jul/Aug) led by Guest Editors-in-Chief Jorge Alió and David Chang;
  3. Latest Development in AMD & Ophthalmic Application of Anti-VEGF Therapy (Nov/Dec) led by Guest Editors-in-Chief Timothy Lai and William Mieler, and Guest Editors R.V. Paul Chan, Andrew Chang, Gemmy Cheung and Patricio Schlottmann

For 2018, I am thrilled to share with you that we have planned four special issues with the very kind support of distinguished international experts in the respective fields:

  1. Retinal Vascular Diseases including Vascular Occlusions and Diabetic Retinopathy led by Guest Editors-in-Chief Drs Suber Huang and Lihteh Wu;
  2. Pediatric Retinal Disease led by Guest Editors-in-Chief Drs R.V. Paul Chan and Wai Ching Lam, and Guest Editors Drs Michael Chiang, Shunji Kusaka, CK Patel and Wei Chi Wu;
  3. Prevention of Blindness, Ocular Epidemiology, Telemedicine, and Big Data led by Guest Editors-in-Chief Drs Nathan Congdon and Mingguang He, and Guest Editors Augusto Azuara-Blanco, Amanda Davis, Tony Realini, and Jialiang Zhao
  4. Controversies in Neuro-Ophthalmology led by Drs Guest Editors-in-Chief Anthony Arnold and Prem Subramanian, and Guest Editors Drs Carmen Chan, Satoshi Kashii, Mike Lee, Janet Rucker and Patrick Yu-Wai-Man

With the involvement and support of our many renowned Guest Editors and authors, I believe our special issues shall give our readers valuable insights on the current trends and latest developments in Ophthalmology.

Last but not least, my heartfelt gratitude to the authors, reviewers, and Editorial Board Members, for their steadfast support to APJO. "Teamwork divides the task and multiplies the success"; together we will help APJO sail to new heights!

Sincerely yours,

Dennis Lam, MD
